“Free to be me among the delicate petals of possibility.”

Artist Statement

I long to express my emotions through color, shape and line letting the marks I make unfold into a story that weaves the chaos that sometimes exists in my mind with the beauty I know to be reality. I interpret the noise in my head as both broken and beautiful with soft moments, harsh moments, moments fighting each other while others embrace. Edges and values speaking to one another, colors coalescing, and lines and shapes working together to create a place of quiet beauty within the chaos. I feel, see, and hear color as a song wrapping itself around my mind, protecting me, and reminding me of the beauty in this world as well as the fleeting nature of thoughts and feelings. Everything I paint is through the lens of distortion whether a landscape, floral or face allowing me to lean into the visual disturbances of my mind and move through the dissonance finding peace through process.

Whispering their silent love songs.
Grounding me.
Forever touched by their quiet beauty.

Heather Karp resides in West Newbury with her son and dog.
